On Friday, August 7th, Levy held their 2016 United Way kick-off meeting at Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit. Evan and Mr. Levy addressed the group, shared last year’s totals and once again encouraged 100% participation. After a short tour of the Gleaners warehouse, the group was put to work sorting and packaging food. In just under 90 minutes, the Levy group managed to sort and package 5,740 pounds of food.
On Sunday, August 9th, the DSMS group had their 2nd annual Family Safety Engagement Day. This year they asked everyone who attended to bring food donations for Gleaners. A box was placed in the HR Lobby a week prior to the event so that employees who were not going to the Family Engagement Day could also make food donations.
On Monday, August 10th, Gleaners came by to pick up the seven boxes filled with food donations. In a thank you letter sent to the Levy Co, Joshua Allard, Food and Fund Drive Coordinator for Gleaners, wrote:
“Thank you so much for your donation of 543 pounds of assorted food to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. This generous gift will provide approximately 451 meals to your hungry neighbors in need! Outstanding job!”
