Winter Safety
Levy Prioritizes Employee Safety during Winter Weather Events
Winter brings unique challenges to the work we do at Levy and keeping our workers safe remains our top priority year-round. Whether it is maintaining our processing plants, operating heavy equipment, loading customer trucks, or producing materials, freezing conditions add a layer of complexity and require extra safety precautions.
Did you know that slip and falls are three times more likely to happen during freezing weather and nearly 25% of all winter-related falls result in an injury?
It’s important to keep our employees safe in these conditions so they can return home to their families at the end of the day. Here is what we do ensure everyone stays safe across our working areas:
-
Our teams use an “ice check” form to regularly inspect walking paths, parking lots and access roads to spot and address hazards like ice buildup and trip risks hiding under snow.
-
We keep salt stations fully stocked and have team members ready to tackle snow and ice removal when needed.
-
We stick to designated paths and report hazards so they can be fixed quickly.
-
Operators regularly check tire pressure, clear ice from steps and make sure windshield wipers and washer fluid are ready for action on all vehicles and equipment.
-
Our team members gear up with insulated gloves, headgear, ice cleats and so much more.
-
We have regular safety talks and continuous training to remind us all to stay focused, watch for distractions and report anything that could be unsafe for our teammates or customers.
-
Our winter safety plan is reviewed, updated, and presented to our team every year.
Winter makes things more challenging, but it also highlights a true Levy value: our commitment to safety and looking out for one another. By staying prepared and working together, we’ll keep getting the job done — safely and successfully — all season long.
