Careers in Construction Month: Building the Foundation for the Future
October may be Careers in Construction Month but at Levy, every month is an opportunity to inspire the next generation of builders.
This year, we had a blast helping kids get hands-on with our Touch-A-Truck events in Oxford, Michigan and Canton, Ohio. Children of all ages climbed up into big machines, met our crews and got a front-row seat to the heavy equipment that helps create the world around them. For many, it was their first up-close look at what controlling machinery could look like and judging by the smiles, we think we might’ve sparked a few new dreams.
This month, we also are giving tours of our sand and gravel mining site in Oxford to local students and homeschool groups. They will see how sand and gravel is processed, where it is mined, and learn about the many roles that make our operations run smoothly. The best way to get kids excited about construction is to let them see, touch, and experience it for themselves, and there’s nothing we enjoy more.
Our work with Junior Achievement is another way we help students connect the dots between the classroom and real-world careers. Through programs like Finance Park, Journey2Jobs, JA in a Day and our annual Bowl-a-Thon, Levy volunteers help teach financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness and remind students that their future can be just as big as their ambition.
Young people are the future of our workforce and they’re the spark that keeps our industry and our communities growing strong.
