World Day for Safety and Health at Work: How Safety Shapes Every Step at Levy

At Levy, safety is a promise we make to our employees, it is a strongly held value. April 28 marks “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” and we’re proud to highlight the people, practices and principles that make safety an integral part of who we are.

Leading our effort to keep everyone safe is Samantha O’Saben, Levy’s Director of Environmental, Health and Safety. She and her team work across departments and job sites to build a culture grounded in prevention, accountability and care.

“We don’t view safety as a standalone function. It’s integrated into every part of our business,” says O’Saben. “That means involving every teammate, our frontline crews and executive leadership and making sure they have the tools, training and support to make safe decisions every day.”

At the heart of Levy’s approach is a structured strategy built around three pillars: Culture, Systems and Behavior. From comprehensive onboarding programs to regular audits and site inspections, every process is designed to anticipate risk and empower employees to take ownership of safety.

One of the company’s most impactful initiatives is its Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program, which focuses on identifying potential high-severity risks even when no injury has occurred. By prioritizing potential outcomes instead of just tracking incidents, the program helps the team stay ahead of possible hazards and intervene early.

“Our goal is to look forward, not just react when something happens,” says O’Saben. “When we analyze leading indicators and learn from our surroundings, we can take proactive steps that truly protect our people.”

That proactive mindset begins before a new hire even arrives onsite. Through personalized safety onboarding, including gear and educational materials sent directly to their home, new teammates and their families see just how seriously Levy takes its commitment to safety.

Beyond the worksite, Levy continues to promote health and safety through family safety events, emergency preparedness efforts and community engagement. It’s all part of creating a culture of care that extends from job sites to neighborhoods.

This World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Levy celebrates the people who make safety a priority. Not just because it’s a requirement, but because it’s the right thing to do.
