This summer, Samantha O’Saben represented Levy at the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Annual Safety Conference and Expo in Anaheim, California, where she participated as both an attendee and a speaker.

As a member of the Executive Safety Forum, O’Saben was selected to serve as one of four instructors for the Executive Safety Academy, a pre-conference program designed for emerging safety leaders from organizations across the country. The class was brought together by professionals from leading companies, including Boeing and Tesla.

“It was a really great experience that definitely challenged me,” O’Saben remarked.

Beyond teaching, O’Saben spent her time exploring the latest trends that are shaping the future of safety. One of her biggest takeaways was the industry’s growing focus on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention and the need to move beyond traditional lagging indicators like Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) when measuring safety performance.

Through leadership forums, benchmarking discussions, and sessions on emerging technologies, O’Saben gained valuable insights into new approaches, tools, and strategies that organizations are using to strengthen safety programs.

A standout moment for O’Saben was learning from Laurie Shelby, Head of Safety at Tesla, who presented on Leading Change and shared practical lessons on influencing culture and guiding organizations through transformation.
